Kitchen Plumbing Inspection Checklist

The kitchen is one more room that is heavy with plumbing fittings. At least two times yearly, examine all your fixtures and fix if there is any problems that arise.

1. Dishwasher. During the inspection tour, have some more minutes to observe and to listen to your dishwasher while it is in action. The dishwasher that is too slow to fill water inside may have some trouble with the supplies of water or a shutoff valve which controls it. When a dishwasher is just too slow to drain, and when the drain water remained at the bottom of a dishwasher after each cycle is done, inspect its water set off hose for pinching or clogs.

2. Faucets. The leaky kitchen faucets are the most common plumbing maintenance there is, and this may quietly waste many gallons of water every year. Look after your faucet carefully when you operate a lever, and repair your faucet when it requires it.

3. Garbage disposer. The problems with the garbage disposers normally are discovered in the drain links where the dishwasher discharge links to the disposer and where a disposer discharge flows to its sink drain. Examine these points and then tighten the links or change the gaskets when they are showing signs of leakage. The garbage disposer that had that foul smell must be cleaned. If you do not have any idea on what is the best thing to do, you can choose to follow the advices of the manufacturer for the routine maintenance of your disposal of garbage.

4. Refrigerator. The refrigerator with the water dispenser and the ice maker must have the filter replaced normally and there are lots of manufacturers that recommend to changing of filters at least twice in each year. The clogged filter may block the water flow to an icemaker or to the dispenser. Also, check the supply hose of your water for signs of wear and change it if necessary.

5. Sink drains. This kitchen sink takes many times of uses, and the sink strainer is the usual place where the leaking may take place. Watch the filter side and its P-trap as the water in a sink drains out. The P-trap fittings will need to be squeezed, and a strainer basket must be changed when it starts to leak or to becomes corroded. The sink that drains gradually will have the clog constructing in a P-trap or the branch drain; the fittings will be disassembled and will be cleaned out. Wash the sink drain of the kitchen occasionally. By using the mild household drain cleaner through the sink drain of the kitchen regularly will aid in breaking up the typical buildup in the drains and save the water flowing.

6. Shutoff valves. A fixture shutoff valve that will control the supply of water to its sink faucet, refrigerator and dishwasher water lines are proposed to totally shut down the flow of the water when these are being shut down. During the inspection, close tightly the valves and be sure that they are operating as intended. When they do not turn off the water totally, they must be replaced.
